The Ministry of Public Security has instructed Vietnam Electricity (EVN) to hand over documents related to 24 wind farms and eight solar power projects as part of an investigation into abuse of power among public officials.

The alleged wrongdoings relate to “abusing position and power while performing official duties” at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, as well as cities and provinces.

EVN has been asked to complete dossiers relating to negotiations and power purchase contracts, as well as evaluations and certifications for commercial operations. The dossiers must also include the results of periodic and unannounced inspections to check the actual installation capacity of the power plants.

Several of the projects are already in commercial operations and enjoying power purchase prices set by the government to encourage the development of clean energy in Vietnam.

Four wind farms are located in the highland province of Gia Lai, namely Hung Hai, Cuu An, Ia Le 1, and Ia Bang 1.

The solar power projects include Trung Nam-Thuan An, Trung Nam–Thuan Bac, Thuan Nam 19, Long Thanh 1, Thien Tan Solar, Xuan Thien–Xuan Bac, and CMX Renewable Energy Vietnam.
