The Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) is coordinating with development partners to organize a training course on climate policy simulation and greenhouse gas emission reduction.
The course aims to support businesses, especially steel, cement, and thermal power production facilities listed in the list of 2,166 large emission facilities according to Decision No. 13/2024/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister, to conduct greenhouse gas inventories and prepare to participate in the carbon market in the context of Vietnam moving towards low-carbon economic development.
According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tho – Director of the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment, the course not only provides knowledge about measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also helps businesses prepare to participate in the carbon market, use the carbon pricing mechanism to choose technology and roadmap to reduce emissions for businesses.
Key contents include the roadmap for developing the carbon market in Vietnam, from establishing a legal basis (2023-2024), implementing pilot transactions (2025-2028), to official operation in 2029 with the expectation of connecting to the international market. Enterprises will learn in depth about the role of intermediary organizations such as banks and management agencies, as well as trading methods in the carbon credit market at the Hanoi Stock Exchange. This is an opportunity for enterprises to proactively adapt to new policies, build sustainable development strategies, and enhance competitiveness in the trend of globalization of emission reduction initiatives.
The Vietnamese Government has issued Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP, regulating greenhouse gas emission reduction and ozone layer protection, to guide large emitters to conduct greenhouse gas inventories and meet carbon market participation standards. In this course, businesses are not only provided with theoretical knowledge but also participate in practical activities through global policy simulations. The program has been experienced and highly appreciated by more than 285,000 people in 171 countries, including more than 130 members of the US Congress.
