At a conference, held on November 6 in central Nghe An province, to disseminate knowledge on climate change response and implement the roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality according to Vietnam’s commitments at COP 26, the Climate Change Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) shows that Vietnam affirmed its determination to strongly transition from fossil energy to renewable energy such as wind and solar power, while mobilizing financial, technological, and intellectual resources from the international community to serve the green transition process.
In agriculture and forestry, Vietnam has implemented many specific solutions aimed at reducing emissions and enhancing carbon absorption. Many rice cultivation models reduce methane emissions, use organic fertilizers in the right dosage, and process agricultural by-products into fertilizers or energy, yielding positive results.
Notable programs currently being implemented include the 1 million ha of high-quality, low-emission rice project in the Mekong Delta, contributing to the expansion of sustainable agricultural models. Policies to close natural forests, strengthen protection, and plant new forests also help increase carbon storage while providing stable livelihoods for people living in forest-dependent areas.
Moreover, Vietnam is participating in the carbon market through the Emission Reduction Payment Agreement (ERPA) in the North Central region. This is one of the important international programs supporting financial resources for forest protection in Vietnam, opening new directions in sustainable forest management and development.
Additionally, many domestic enterprises have proactively participated in the green transition process. Many business models have invested heavily in clean technology, using renewable energy, rooftop solar power, and applying environmentally friendly production processes.
At the conference, delegates also shared experiences, analyzed challenges in implementing greenhouse gas emission reduction measures at enterprises, and proposed solutions to remove obstacles and promote the implementation of Vietnam’s carbon neutrality goal.
