VCCI launches “World Energy and Environment Forum – Vietnam 2026”

The forum, themed “Vietnam operationalising the pathway to Net Zero,” is designed as a policy dialogue platform to support the implementation of emission reduction commitments and energy transition.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh – Vice President of VCCI and Chairman of VBCSD – delivers remarks at the launch ceremony.

The programme is sponsored and supported by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry through its focal point, the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development, in coordination with the World Energy Council Vietnam.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh emphasised that as climate change remains a global challenge and countries intensify their emission reduction commitments, achieving net-zero emissions has become a strategic development direction. With its commitment to reach Net Zero by 2050 announced at COP26, Vietnam is gradually improving its institutional framework and promoting a transition towards green and sustainable growth.

For a developing economy that is highly vulnerable to climate change while entering a new development phase requiring rapid growth, green transition and energy transformation offer opportunities to enhance productivity, strengthen competitiveness, attract green investment and create new growth drivers.

However, according to Mr. Vinh, the pathway to Net Zero still faces significant challenges, including limited investment capital, underdeveloped core technologies, a lack of synchronised emission measurement and monitoring mechanisms, and weak implementation capacity at the local level. In particular, stronger engagement from the private sector and the business community is needed.

The programme is expected to serve as a multi-stakeholder platform to drive concrete actions towards Net Zero.

Despite global geopolitical uncertainties affecting economic growth and business operations, Mr. Vinh noted that through engagements with businesses from Europe, the United States and other markets, there remains strong confidence and commitment to sustainable development. In the long term, responsible and sustainable business practices will serve as key drivers for resilience, recovery and long-term growth.

Vietnam is no exception. On its journey towards green, inclusive and sustainable growth, alongside the Net Zero goal and government directives, strong determination and collective action from all stakeholders, including the business community, are essential to protect the environment.

“In this context, VCCI, through VBCSD, has decided to sponsor and support the organisation of the first World Energy and Environment Forum – Vietnam in coordination with WEC-VN. We expect this programme to serve as a multi-stakeholder platform to promote concrete actions by the business community in achieving Net Zero, particularly through initiatives in the energy and environment sectors,” Mr. Vinh said.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy – Chairwoman of WEC-VN – speaks at the launch ceremony.

From the co-organising side, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy stressed that energy transition is one of the most complex challenges today, which no single country, enterprise or technology can solve alone. It requires multi-stakeholder cooperation, continuous innovation and coordinated connectivity across ecosystems—from policy and technology to finance.

In this context, platforms such as the World Energy Council play an important role not only in facilitating dialogue but also in co-creating solutions. She expressed her expectation that the programme would go beyond dialogue to deliver tangible actions, bringing together government, businesses, experts and international partners to jointly shape Vietnam’s pathway to Net Zero.

The programme will also identify, honour and promote outstanding models, initiatives and solutions, while establishing connections with ecosystems of experts, investors, climate funds and technical–financial support programmes for green transition.

The World Energy and Environment Forum – Vietnam is organised by VCCI through VBCSD in coordination with WEC-VN.

The “World Energy and Environment Forum – Vietnam 2026” is scheduled to take place on 11–12 June, featuring key activities such as the main forum, an award programme on sustainable green energy and environment in Vietnam based on World Energy Council criteria, and the exhibition “Green Path – Net Zero Vietnam.”
